Redefining Perceptions of Africa Through Art – Monday, Nov. 30 – 7 p.m. – Kay Spiritual Center

An evening of music, poetry, and discussion celebrating African creativity. Reception following with vegetarian Ethiopian food provided by Zed’s Ethiopian Cuisine in Georgetown. KPU Presents Cleve Jones – Wednesday, December 2 – 8:15 p.m. – Ward 1

Join American University in welcoming Cleve Jones, founder of the AIDS Memorial Quilt and associate of Harvey Milk, to our campus. Mr. Jones will speak about his advocacy efforts and his personal participation in the AIDS movement. “Courage and Hope” Screening – Thursday, Dec. 3 – 7 p.m. – MGC 200

Join us for a screening of Courage and Hope, the award-winning documentary that tells the stories of HIV+ school teachers in Africa. After the screening there will be a dialogue with one of the featured teachers, Beldina Atieno, of Kenya, and the producers of the film. Movie and Letter Writing to Indian Orphanage – Friday, December 4 – 5:30-7 p.m. – MGC 247

Winter Food Drive – Wednesdays and Fridays – 2-5 p.m. – MGC Lobby

One half of children in D.C. are at risk of hunger. You can help change this. AU’s Health, Poverty and Education class is hosting a food drive for the Capital Area Food Bank. Bring non-perishable items to benefit this project until December 4th.

Rude Mechanicals – Thursday, December 3 and Friday December 4 – 7:30 p.m. – SIS Lounge

Join the Rude Mechanicals for this performance of A Christmas Carol to benefit the Women’s Collective. 

Passion Party! – Friday, December 4 – 6-8 p.m. – Butler Boardroom (Tunnel Elevator, Floor 6)

Celebrate the last day of classes at this co-ed all-inclusive passion party. Co-sponsored by Queers and Allies. 


DC EVENTS

“God, Me… HIV?” Film Screening—Monday, November 30 – 6:30-9:30 p.m. – The Newseum, 555 Pennsylvania Ave. NW

Join the National Medical Association for its red carpet premiere of “God, Me… HIV?”, an adaptation of Devin T. Robinson X’s one-man show “God Did Not Give Me HIV.” There will be free HIV testing at the event. World AIDS Day Demonstration and Rally – Tuesday, December 1 – Noon – Downtown

Stand up to demand action on the health crisis of HIV/AIDS. DC Fights Back is holding a demonstration on World AIDS Day to demand change to end this epidemic. World AIDS Day Luncheon – Tuesday, December 1 – Noon- 2 p.m. – Downtown

This conference will discuss the recent advances of a HIV vaccine and the possibility of such a vaccine in the near future. A light lunch will be served. This event will take place at the HRC Equality Center at 1640 Rhode Island Ave, NW.

World AIDS Day Candlelight Vigil – Tuesday, December 1 – 5:30 p.m. – Dupont Circle

Honor those who have lost their lives to the disease of AIDS and those who continue to fight against it. Sponsored by the Whitman-Walker Clinic, in partnership with AIDS Alliance for Children, Youth and Families.

A Red Hot Night at Hotel Rouge – Tuesday, December 1 – 5:30-8:30 p.m. – Downtown

This event will benefit the Whitman-Walker Clinic. Your $10 donation includes one drink ticket. Additional drink tickets can be bought for $5. This event will take place at 1315 16th St., NW.

“Ads Vs. AIDS: 25 Years of Communications for the Cause” exhibit – Tuesday, December 1 – 6-8 p.m. – Long View Gallery

Critical Incident Awareness Training Fundraiser – Tuesday, December 1 – 7:30 p.m. – 7263-A Arlington Blvd Falls Church, VA 22042

This fundraiser benefits Critical Incident Awareness Training Inc., which provides free self-defense and empowerment classes for victims of rape and domestic violence. The night includes a self-defense course taught by CIAT and a chance to enter into a raffle for prizes like a Blackberry Curve, a ten person catered dinner, and many more prizes. The donation for the evening is $30 per person.

The Feminist Majority Foundation –

Intern with the Feminist Majority Foundation this spring! Join our team and contribute to our work by organizing events, researching information, attending rallies, monitoring legislation, and more! FMF seeks highly motivated undergraduate students with a passion for feminist issues and an interest in public policy and political science. All who are interested are encouraged to apply.
