Clothing and Toiletries Drive- Monday, September 21 – Monday, September 28
Women’s Initiative, the Wellness Center, the GLBTA Resource Center, Queers and Allies, and the Student Government are sponsoring a clothing a toiletries drive this week! Please bring unopened toiletries and clothing in good shape to drop sites in the SG offices (MGC 262), the Wellness Center, the GLBTA Resource Center, and Anderson, McDowell, and Nebraska halls.
Student Government General Interest Meeting – Monday, September 21, 8 p.m. MGC 200
Love Women’s Initiative and want to see what else the SG has to offer? Come learn about the different Student Government branches and departments at the General Interest Meeting! Free Chipotle will be provided!
“Hubby Hubby” Ice Cream Social – Tuesday, September 22 – 5 pm – Wellness Center
Celebrate Vermont’s legalization of same-sex marriage and Ben and Jerry’s specially named ice cream! Enjoy ice cream with good company and check out the Wellness Center’s fun new GLBT sexual health products.
Safe Space Sticker Program- Wednesday, September 23 – 2 p.m.
You can be a part of making AU a safer, more inclusive environment for all. Join the Safe Space Sticker Program to learn more about issues of sexual orientation and gender identity and resources on our campus. Join the Peacebuilding and Development Institute and Women’s Initiative in viewing a documentary of the incredible story of the Liberian women’s peace movement! The viewing of this Tribeca film festival winner is followed by a discussion.

Join Women’s Initiative for the kickoff of The Line Campaign’s national campus tour right here at AU. We will be watching the documentary “The Line” which deals with issues of consent and sexual violence followed by a Q&A with producer and director Nancy Schwartzman. AU Fights AIDS and On a Sensual Note- Friday, September 25, 8 p.m., Kay Spiritual Life Center
Come to this fundraiser for the AU Fights AIDS team! On a Sensual Note will perform their latest songs for attendees in order to raise money for this great cause. A $5 donation, or whatever you can spare, is suggested. This is also a great opportunity to find out more about the AU Fights AIDS team!
The 2009 USA Basketball Women’s National Team Showcase – Sunday, October 4 – noon – Bender Arena
AU is excited and honored to host the members of basketball’s Women’s National Team. Come out near the end of the WNBA all-star players’ six-day training camp to enjoy team drills, a scrimmage, a Q&A session with head coach Geno Auriemma, and an autograph session with some of the players. Come watch the AU Women’s Field Hockey team take on their opponents at the annual Phil Bender game! Free food and giveaways will be provided on a first come first serve basis!

Please join Women’s Initiative, SUB, Students for Sensible Drug Policy, Justice Not Jails, & AU Club Council for an evening of local art & activism featuring music from Washington CityPaper favorites Ra Ra Rasputin & Justice DC Youth activist The Pravhrb, poetry from Baltimore-based producer and songstress Carolyn Malachi, and guest speaker Neill Franklin, Retired Maryland Commander of Drug Enforcement. This event seeks to raise awareness around the war on drugs and provide students with options for sustained activism with DC drug policy reform organizations. This event is free, outdoors, and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.

We Won’t Wait for Peace Virtual Film Festival – Monday, September 21 through Thursday September 24 – 6 pm
Take part in this virtual film festival sponsored by the organization Peace X Peace. From the comfort of your own laptop watch these films dealing with issues of peacebuilding, women, and conflict resolution. The films are followed by online panel discussions with producers, film staff, etc. You can watch one, two, or all of the four films! The 23rd Annual AIDS Walk – One in 20 adults in DC had HIV/AIDS. Put your foot down. AU Fights AIDS! has been the largest team at the walk for the last two years… let’s make it three! Running Start Internship—Running Start is a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring young women and girls to run for political office. As a relatively new organization, Running Start relies on the hard work of its dedicated interns. Consequently, this is an ideal internship for students who would like a great deal of responsibility and variety in the work they would do during their internship. Intern responsibilities may include events planning, writing, research, (and little to no filing or answering the phone!) Strong writing, communication, and organization skills and initiative to handle one’s own projects to help the organization grow are a must. Knowledge of Excel and Frontpage/web editing would be helpful.

Your contribution could take the form of a workshop, a panel, or a performance or reading. Proposals are due October 16th.
